Youth Mentoring

It’s very sad to note that the youth are shying away from those that are ahead of them, while it from them they can learn tricks of surviving in the current hard economic times. Failing to recognize how resourceful a mentor is, can be detrimental to progress. Severally we have witnessed great business ideas fail to take off or collapse after a short time due to lack of people to carry on a vision. Business ideas and dreams go down the drain because of lack of mentoring. It’s the high time mentors and the mentored work together towards ensuring continuity.

A mentor should realize the importance of passing on his/her skills to ensure their visions are carried on. A mentor will manage the learning process of their students and in doing so help propel them towards realizing their career path, since most students are undecided on what they what to do in life. Deliberate efforts to teach and pass on expertise needs to occupy the minds of mentors and not be selfish.

Engaging an adviser will help in identifying the expectation of the society and hence conform to fit in. The mentor should also give the student tasks and assignments which can be evaluated to determine the progress made.

There is a need to make sure skills don’t fade away but instead they must be passed on from generation to generation. Parents have to be mentors to their children by motivating them towards personal development.
